ABOUT US

ABOUT ISLAMIC RELIEF SOMALIA

Islamic Relief Somalia has continued to contribute to the wellbeing of people in need in Somalia since 2006. Islamic Relief responds to the needs of conflict and drought affected people through provision of life saving assistance. We work to provide immediate humanitarian relief and long term sustainable development. We work in seven main programmatic sectors in Somalia targeting vulnerable communities mostly in rural and remote underserved areas, and IDP camps.

We are currently based and working in seven main towns within four states in Somalia.

  • Mogadishu, the country office
  • Hargeisa, Somaliland
  • Baidoa and Afgoye of South West State of Somalia
  • Beledweyne, Balcad and Jowhar of Hirshabelle State of Somalia
  • Garowe, Puntland State of Somalia

MISSION

Exemplifying our Islamic values, we will mobilize resources, build partnerships, and develop local capacity as we work to:

Enable communities to mitigate the effect of disasters, prepare for their occurrence and respond by providing relief, protection and recovery;
Promote integrated development and environmental custodianship with a focus on sustainable livelihoods;
Support the marginalized and vulnerable to voice their needs and address root causes of poverty.

VISION

Inspired by our Islamic faith and guided by our values we envisage a caring world where communities are empowered, social obligations are fulfilled and people respond as one to the suffering of the others

CORE VALUES

We remain guided by the timeless values and teachings provided by the revelations contained within the Qur’an and the prophetic example, most specifically:

Sincerity-Ikhlas    Excellence-Ihsan    Custodianship-Amana
Compassion-Rahma    Social Justice-Adl

Islamic Relief Somalia ‘Do no harm’ commitment

Islamic Relief Somalia is committed to supporting those in need without expecting anything in return in line
with our international commitments to Leave No One Behind and the Core Humanitarian Standard on
Quality and Accountability

We assist people according to need and do not discriminate in any way.
We recognise that much of our work now takes place in complex, fragile or conflict-affected
environments where tensions are high, the context can change rapidly and the situation is opaque. We
also recognise that external interventions, such as the provision of humanitarian aid or development
assistance, interact with the local context in ways that are sometimes unforeseen.

OUR CORE OBJECTIVES

Our Somalia programme strategy is derived from goals outlined in the Islamic Relief World wide’s Global Strategy.

GOALS

1Reducing the humanitarian impact of conflicts and natural disasters.
  • Reduce the suffering and losses resulting from conflict or natural disasters.
  • Provide timely, adequate, and relevant emergency assistance for people affected by conflict or natural disasters.
  • Support households and communities affected by disasters to rebuild their livelihoods.
2Empowering communities to emerge from poverty and vulnerability·
  • Increase assets, income, food security and access to employment opportunities for poor households
  • Improve the quality of life for vulnerable groups, particularly women and children, through investments in Education, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), and health services.

    OUR FOCUS

Islamic Relief directly implementing all the project in any areas of intervention due to the reputational mandate and local competitive staff. Over the last 2 decades, Islamic Relief with support from its several partners and institutional donors has implemented similar interventions reaching out to drought-affected communities, Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and Returnees. Islamic Relief has opted more on resilience building of the communities through community participatory approach to overcome the extreme poverty whatever it takes.
